climate change: crisis or non-issue?
Here’s a little-known fact: A vast majority of the international scientific community knows about multiple periods of global warming and global cooling that have taken place at different times in Earth’s history leading up to the modern day. Studies of these climate changes have been in numerous published papers. These decades and some centuries long periods of mild and severe changes in Earth’s global temperature and weather conditions are well documented and supported by both scientific research and recorded history. Many scientists agree that there have been these past periods of warming and cooling.
To my knowledge there is only one international science team on the planet that outright rejects this collection of verified data and is actively involved in suppressing the evidence. It is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, established in 1988 by the United Nations. The whole reason for the IPCC’s existence is based entirely on the assumption and continued assertion that climate change presents an immediate and serious threat to all mankind.
It is truly astounding how much influence the global warming dogma has on policymakers. Governments around the world, including the U.S. government, are allocating huge sums of taxpayer money to fund the war on warmness. Internationally, we’re talking trillions, to put it in U.S. currency terminology.
I think that one of the biggest blunders environmental activists have made was to include “global warming theory” in the conversation about “environmental protection.” There are multi-billion-dollar industries that need government regulation and oversight. Because people do what they can get away with. Issues like deforestation, negligent waste management practices and pollution in our water supply are real.
Science or censorship?
If climate crisis is just hype, then why don’t scientists from around the world expose it for what it is? Actually, many have been. But individual voices are not always heard. Big money and geopolitics are involved. Opposing the false narrative of the mainstream can be challenging. Many doctors and scientists have been censored for having an opposing view. But resorting to censorship only proves that the mainstream cannot win the debate.
Atmospheric scientist and creationist Michael Oard shares in his writings: “As of 2007, Dr. Art Robinson has maintained a website that has been signed by over 31,000 scientists with Bachelor’s degrees or higher, over 9,000 with PhDs, saying that there is no convincing scientific evidence that greenhouse gases are causing or will cause catastrophic heating of the earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the earth’s climate.” *
In 2011 Don J. Easterbrook, a professor of Geology and author of Evidence-Based Climate Science, revealed his findings on climate change in an extraordinarily candid and very unpopular study entitled: Geologic Evidence of Recurring Climate Cycles and Their Implications for the Cause of Global Climate Changes—The Past is the Key to the Future. *
Easterbrook writes: “Over a period of many decades, several thousand papers were published establishing the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) from about 900 A.D. to 1300 A.D. and the Little Ice Age (LIA) from about 1300 A.D. to 1915 A.D. as global climate changes. Thus, it came as quite a surprise when Mann et al. (1998) concluded that neither the MWP nor the Little Ice Age actually happened on the basis of a tree-ring study and that became the official position of the 2001 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC 3rd report (Climate Change 2001) then totally ignored the several thousand publications detailing the global climate changes during the MWP and the LIA and used the Mann et al. tree-ring study as the basis for the now famous assertion that ‘Our civilization has never experienced any environmental shift remotely similar to this. Today’s climate pattern has existed throughout the entire history of human civilization.’ ” *
Dr. Alan White, one of the authors of Climate Change: A biblical perspective on the controversy, writes: “There is good evidence that the climate in the Northern Hemisphere was warmer about a thousand years ago—the Vikings were able to farm in Greenland. After a few hundred years, they stopped farming due to a cooler climate. The temperature continued to decline for a few hundred more years, and the Thames in London began to regularly freeze.”
In contrast to the truth look at this so-called data from a UN report: “In 2019, atmospheric CO2 concentrations were higher than at any time in at least 2 million years, and concentrations of methane and nitrous oxide were higher than at any time in the last 800,000 years.”
I guess it was story time at the UN. This report is only proof that bad science is real. These key players in the Climate Con would never tell people the truth about the real “chief cause” of the greenhouse effect. And it is not CO2.
Dr. Alan White, who earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Harvard University, tells us: “We do know that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases act as a blanket over the earth. When sunlight heats the earth’s surface, the warm earth radiates some of that heat into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases slow the escape of that radiated heat. You have been led to believe that the most important greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide. It is not. Water vapor and clouds are actually responsible for about 80 to 90 percent of the total greenhouse effect. That’s right, at least 80 percent. The percentage of the greenhouse effect attributable to CO2 is believed to be as high as 20 percent by some and as low as 4 percent by others. Almost everyone agrees that the percent of CO2 that is man-made is only about 4 percent of total CO2. Therefore, the greenhouse effect caused by man-made CO2 is less than 1 percent of the total and may be a small fraction of 1 percent.”
Nature’s Cycles
You don’t need to be a climatologist to understand that nature moves in cycles. Earth spins, creating a day/night cycle. Earth’s elliptical orbit around the Sun is a continuous cycle. This planet’s rotation is a cycle. That it has a tilt as it orbits the Sun and rotates on its axis is what causes the seasons (yet another cycle). All the while the moon orbits it. Earth’s oceans are affected by the gravitational pull of the moon, causing an endless cycle of high and low tides.
Earth was also designed with temperature control systems. We know that clouds and water vapor act to retain heat from the Sun. But one of the great cooling systems of this planet is its oceans. The world’s oceans absorb excess heat.
The book of Creation tells us…
As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease. (Genesis 8:22 NIV)
Global Shaming
Yes, the threat of global shaming is real. Many are dealing with the effects of climate shame.
At the 2019 Climate Change Summit in New York, we got lectured and scolded by a little girl. Greta Thunberg has become the poster child for environmental activism. I admire her courage, but I disagree with her thinking. The UN used this then 16-year-old girl, who represents the next generation, to promote their hysteria in a “Blah blah blah…” rant that goes on and on to spur world leaders to action. What action are leaders taking? They are taking our money.
Nations throughout Europe are rethinking and reshaping their energy and transportation sectors. Instead of “multiplying their resources and gathering up the fragments,” they are wasting their resources and trying to go green too soon, but it’s not producing any positive results. Its only real result was to produce radicalized eco-warriors who try to shame and blame their neighbors for the weather.
In 2017 many climate activists were furious when President Trump announced the U.S. pull out from the Paris climate agreement. I wonder if any of these same people were upset when recently it was discovered that France did not even meet the terms of their own agreement on carbon emission limits.
At the time of this writing, I was living in Kuwait (one of the hottest places on Earth) doing some security work for the U.S. Army. By the way, the Middle East has been hot for thousands of years. The Bible calls it “a sun scorched land.” This is not anything new. So, it’s kind of funny that on Sunday, Oct. 10th, 2021, I see a story on the front page of Stars and Stripes newspaper: “Troops, equipment and installations across the Defense Department must become more resilient to extreme weather conditions that will grow harsher in the coming years amid a changing climate likely to stoke global security and stability problems, a top Pentagon official said Friday. The Defense Department has been mandated to include climate change adaptation into its planning…” The article goes on to say: “The Pentagon plan was one of 23 climate change-focused plans released by federal agencies on Thursday. About one week after President Joe Biden took office, he directed the government’s largest agencies to design new plans to adapt their operations to a changing climate and find ways to mitigate the impacts the U.S. federal government has on the changing climate.”
Is there an urgent need for all nations to unite to fight warmness? President Nixon established the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by executive order back in 1970, when there was a perceived crisis of global cooling. Yes, global cooling. Now, half a century later, the progressives in Washington, in this new 3.5 trillion-dollar spending bill, want to allocate 8 billion dollars to “climate police” while millions of Americans struggle just to get through the holiday season without an income. Climate police? Seriously?
Violent Weather
Climate is both the weather conditions and average temperature in a region over a long period of time, at least decades. Major storms are not a sign of climate crisis. Flash floods, heat waves, droughts and forest fires have existed since before the invention of the automobile and long before the Industrial Revolution.
The book of Acts describes an ancient storm that occurred in the Mediterranean Sea 2,000 years ago. Paul had become a prisoner of Rome and was being transported by ship. Both the captain and owner of this Alexandrian ship had hoped to sail to Phoenix to winter in a harbor in Crete. But a wind of hurricane force known as the “Northeaster” drove their ship along the Adriatic Sea to an island called Malta.
To this day we still have Nor’easters. This low-pressure system can reach hurricane force in the Mid-Atlantic and typically blows in from the northeast. Up in the New England area these storms have produced blizzards, stranded and killed travelers, and cracked ships in half.
End of the Age
Jesus’ own words in the eschatological chapters of the Gospels (Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21) along with the Book of Revelation give us the most accurate climate model prediction for the future. There will be tribulation.
Nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the raging and tossing of the sea. There will be earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in various places. Meteorites will rain down on populated and unpopulated areas alike. Cities will be left in ruins. Forests and grasslands will be burned up. Christians call these disasters Signs of the Times. Of course all these things have taken place at different times throughout history. That these events should happen again is not the sign. Escalation is the sign. All of these separate and seemingly unrelated natural disasters occurring together in the same generation, like the plagues of judgment upon ancient Egypt, will be the sign that the end is near. What comes next is an Exodus.
These troubles will be like the birth pains of a pregnant woman. They will increase in frequency and severity as we draw closer to the due date. And what should be our response? We were told to fear not. We were encouraged to look up because our redemption is near. For Christians this means looking forward to this new life and dawn of the age to come.
